Donald Trump will meet with members of the video game industry on Thursday, March 8, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders confirmed Monday .
The White House mentioned last week the possibility that Trump would meet with members of the videogame industry to talk about violence and the use of firearms in some of the titles. The issue arose after the shooting on February 14 at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, where 17 people were killed.
A few days later, Trump criticized the violence in video games because of its influence on children and proposed a classification so that children have less access to this type of titles. This classification already exists.
The Entertainment Software Association (ESA), an organization that represents video game publishers for consoles and the Internet, in a statement obtained by The Verge , stated that "there is no connection between violence in video games and violence in real life. "
He added that "video games, frankly, are not the problem, this entertainment is distributed and consumed globally, but the US has a level of violence by firearms exponentially higher than any other nation."
In his statement, ESA confirmed that he will attend the meeting in the White House for the "opportunity to have a fact-based conversation." The publishing houses of videojuegos still have not confirmed if they will attend.
